Using a cocktail of ingredients (keratin, amino acids and botanicals such as aloe vera, lemongrass, chamomile, and willow bark), the treatment is able to smooth the hair cuticle sans any harsh chemicals. So there are no side effects like burning or itching. And there is no Formaldehyde!
It has officially become our favorite for its mix of gentle ingredients. “There aren’t as many chemicals in this formula — one of the active ingredient is actually aloe, so it’s extra-moisturizing.” Not to mention, the treatment smells amazing. The aroma in the air is more along the lines of a luxe deep conditioner than the medicinal notes of a classic chemical straightener.
As far as the salon appointment itself (pricing starts around $350), plan for about three hours, as the process involves several steps. First you get shampooed with a clarifying formula to thoroughly remove any buildup that might be lingering on your scalp or strands, and then the keratin concoction gets applied by brush onto damp hair. Next, your hair gets put into a cap and you sit for about 40 minutes depending on the level of smoothing you’ve chosen. To activate the keratin, your stylist will blow-dry your hair with a round brush. Then, as crazy as it seems, you get washed again, a mask gets applied, and then you get another blowout.
The sealing masque features a combination of strengthening actives, botanicals and moisturizing butters. It ensures the ultimate finish by helping to secure the new shape of the hair. This bond sealing masque will leave the hair nourished with a visibly smooth, shiny finish.
The multistep method may seem laborious, but the results are so worth it! Your hair will be smooth as silk and shiny—your color will look brighter—and there is a noticeable difference in how it responds to humidity. Keratin Treatment or Color First?
You should apply your hair color first, followed by the keratin treatment. If you’ve already undergone a keratin treatment, be sure to wait two weeks before you dye your hair.
